Roadmap
What we are building, and in what order
Prioritised by how much each step improves the accuracy of speed warnings and reliability on real hardware — because that is the heart of the app.
- V1Done
Running in a real car
Map, speed, speed limits, overspeed alerts, Settings, trip history and on-the-spot limit corrections. Separate APKs for each ABI.
- V1.5Done
Posted speed limits and nationwide offline maps
Rather than building custom tiles with maxspeed, the app reads posted limits from BRouter's routing data, so downloading the routing data brings the limits with it. Also a nationwide PMTiles basemap, an offline place index, and a data manifest so the app can let you know when new builds are available.
- V2Done
Navigation, search, community
Place search (MapVina online, an on-device index offline), Valhalla / BRouter navigation with spoken instructions, remembered routes and voice commands. A community map with 21 report types, confirmation from multiple devices and real-time updates per grid cell. Traffic lights, upcoming signs and a 4-hour rest reminder.
- V2.5Done
Real-car features: OBD-II, TPMS, camera, Android Auto
OBD-II dongle reading (Pro pack, 30-day trial, activation codes for units without Play), Bluetooth tyre-pressure sensors, camera following-distance warnings, speed-limit tables chosen by vehicle type, and a motorbike profile. A second app for Android Auto. Three languages. An island sovereignty layer. Automatic updates for the APK version.
- V3In progress
Supporting more real head units
Our main focus is aftermarket Android units running 7.0 to 9 (Android 7.0 or later is now required; support for 6.0 ended in September 2026), whose GPS modules, cameras and ROMs vary from maker to maker. We are gathering feedback from real cars to fine-tune the fallbacks for GPS reading, voice and camera — every type of unit is a little different.
- Road matching at multi-level junctions: still a genuine weakness, now being re-tested on real roads
- Verifying offline map display on real head units (so far confirmed only on the emulator)
- A catalogue of camera streams and reverse-gear signals for each head-unit maker
- V3.5Done
iPhone version
The same traffic-law and alert core, rewritten in Swift for an iPhone mounted in the car: limit sign, overspeed alerts, navigation, rest reminder, camera following-distance warning (Core ML), OBD-II over Bluetooth LE or WiFi, and MapCar Pro through the App Store. Offline routing uses our own engine on a single nationwide graph file, with street names. Now on the App Store, for iOS 16 or later.
- CarPlay: Apple granted the CarPlay navigation entitlement on 15 September 2026, so the app now runs on CarPlay — map screen, Dashboard and instrument cluster
- Windshield HUD (“Project onto windshield”) in the Android phone and iPhone apps: lay the phone on the dashboard and read the mirrored image in the glass, with a flip mode
- No offline speed limits yet, unlike the Android version
- V4Planned
